Histopathological observation on the cataractous lenses
Abstract
43 cases of senile cataractous lens were collected at the surgery mainly by cryoextraction frim 45 to 82years old persons excluding cases of diabetic, traumatic and other systematic. diseases origined.
The histopathological observation carried out on the findings of lens epithelium around the bow area, cortical layers and nucleus
In immature cataract, the epithelial irregularities and vacuolizatian of relatively early. changes are seen in more cases prominently at the bo area, and cleft formation more frequently at the cortex other than globule formation.
In most mature cataract cases, more atrophic changes on the epithelial component are fre
quently & dominantlly observed and liquefaction seen in later mature stage more prevalently. No relationship between degree of epithelial changes and cortical or nuclear alterations
is detected.
Further detailed investigation on the early changes of finer structures in various part of the lens would be required to clarify the related pathogenesis of the senile lens opacification.
